  • craigslist - should need no intro. Nationwide buying/selling network, concentrating on local buyers and sellers.
  • Freecycle - a grassroots and entirely nonprofit movement of people who are giving (and getting) stuff for free in their own towns and thus keeping good stuff out of landfills.
  • Habitat for Humanity's chain of 'ReStores'. (The store in Klamath is now unfortunately closed, a victim of the building slump a few years ago.)
  • Listia is a free stuff-swapping service. (I assume it's mainly between people that are within driving distance of one another.)
  • "Men's Sheds," an idea formed in Australia to overcome isolation and lack of purpose among retirees, creates places to come together and work on projects.
  • List of online sharing resources, from Center for a New American Dream.org. They also have a short motivational video, "Share-Spray".
  • TOOLZDO is a wide-ranging community bulletin board. They list community resources, neighbors and what they're into, community discussions, and free stuff.
