Mission Statement

Klamath Sustainable Communities is a group of people working for a healthy future in the Klamath Basin through education and community activities. Our focus is community well-being, environmental stewardship, and economic prosperity.

Primary Goals

  • Create choices for, and advocate for, a sustainable environment, a sustainable community, a sustainable economy.
  • Educate the public regarding current problems, current choices, and their consequences.
  • Educate decision makers regarding the community's needs to create a sustainable future.
  • Encourage the acceptance of sustainability as a lifestyle.

Secondary Goals

  • With regard to Economics:
    • Support economic opportunities for businesses and individuals that promote sustainable living.
    • Promote consumption of local products.
    • Work collaboratively to develop a mentoring network of individuals and businesses that foster sustainable living choices and business practices.
  • With regard to Energy:
  • With regard to the Environment:
    • Support plans that keep adequate water supplies for all parties without diminishing the resource.
    • Support commercial and residential practices that keep the air clean.
    • Work with local watershed councils.
  • With regard to Food:
    • Promote consumption of local products.
  • With regard to Green Building:
  • With regard to Land Use:
    • Support plans that demonstrate sustainable land use.
  • With regard to Living sustainably:
    • Educate people of all ages about options for living sustainably, including consumption patterns, recycling, land use, local food production and consumption, home construction and remodeling, local political and democratic practices, reproductive choices, transportation, energy sources, recycling, and others as appropriate.
    • Develop collaborative networks that further the goals of living sustainably.
    • Work collaboratively to develop a mentoring network of individuals and businesses that foster sustainable living choices and business practices.
  • With regard to Recycling:
  • With regard to Transportation:
    • Support walking, biking, and other alternative transportation in place of fossil-fuel-consuming vehicles.
    • Whenever possible, work to include bike trails and sidewalks in all new developments.
